Thought it'd be good to start the forum off with an Introduce Yourself thread. Come on in, say hello, tell us who you are, what you do, what you had for breakfast etc. while everyone else listens attentively.

Hi Sonja - glad someone is out there! You sound as if you're having a busy year. I met you at the Penrhyn Castle private view - we were downstairs for a week at the same time.

I'm frantically trying to catch up after all the HG admin stuff - happily on its way now, thanks to everyone's hard work.

A bit limited at the moment, due to a frustrating broken wrist (fortunately for me, the left one - mending fine), so will have to concentrate on smaller pieces and digital stuff for a bit. (Can't pick the usual large ones up!). Perhaps it will give the work an entirely new dimension. Looking forward to seeing what the potential of this forum really is.

    Hello everyone!

Gillian, in his later years, the celebrated guitarist Derek Bailey developed carpal tunnel syndrome and was unable to hold a pick. Rather than give up playing, he forced himself to learn how to play without one, and this drove him to new creative heights. He recorded a wonderful album (called 'Carpal Tunnel') charting his progress - each track is recorded a couple of weeks after the previous one, and there's a clear development from the uncertain, scratchy beginnings to the fluent and exhilarating final tracks, which is a really fascinating journey to experience. In the accompanying notes he says that while "medical people" insist he should have an operation, he's "more interested in trying to find a way around it". So, think of the wrist as an opportunity for trying something different!

Thanks, Simon! I'm certainly finding new bits of me to substitute for left hand - who knows where it will lead! I should have started on Day 1. I think I'm useless at spotting these opportunities - I remember being infuriated by the artist (temporarily forgotten name) who saved every single birthday present she had been given for 25 years, and then put them into a series of cabinets as an exhibition piece! I think I must lack foresight.

Hello I'm Mel.  I've just discovered Helfa Gelf.  I live in Bala and am an Artist/Encaustician.  I also have just created a group on Flickr for artists as I should like to create an interactive site showing our regular work in Wales.  I don't think there is anything at the moment.... maybe you can let me know if there is.  If you want to look at the site go to:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/1172865@N25/  There's just me on it at the moment.  Can you show your work on the Helfa Gelf site?

I also run a B&B and am involved with the tourism association locally and am trying to put together a list of creative people for the site.

Looking forward to joining in with you all.

    Best wishes

    Mel

    Hi Everyone

My name is Emma and I am joining Helfa Gelf for the first time this year. I live in Pont y Pant near Betws y Coed.
Just thought I would pop in and say hello!

I am mainly a painter and you can see my work here http://art.seeds-of-light.co.uk - My other activity is as a tarot reader (http://www.tarot-guidance.co.uk in case anyone is interested :-) )

I heard from Sabine the other day that there is a facebook account for Helfa Gelf and also a twitter account - does anyone have a link for these - I would like to connect up and use them to help spread the word. Thanks

    Love and blessings to all
    Emma

    Hi fellow Gelfers

this is my first year with HG and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm in Colwyn Bay, where there seems to be an inordinate number of active artists.

I'm an "emerging" artist - what a lovely phrase, sounds like a butterfly!

This forum is an excellent idea; I shall keep popping back to see what's happening. Just thought I'd say hi at this point.
